View Comments The long-awaited final design for the OLF-8 property moved ahead Thursday with relatively little hesitation from Escambia County Commissioners, who have in the past been critical of the design firm and its plans for the undeveloped Beulah land. The design firm DPZ presented essentially the same final design to the county’s planning board Tuesday, and the Escambia County Commission formally accepted the organization s design Thursday, ending months of back-and-forth and contention between pushes for community space and commerce. OLF-8 is a 630-acre field in Beulah near Navy Federal Credit Union that the county acquired as part of a land swap with the Navy in 2013. The group that spearheaded the effort decades ago including local developer Jim Cronley intended it would be used as a commerce park, but as Beulah boomed in recent years residents became more vocal about wanting amenities, retail and commerce options. ....
