Perry trustees hear street lighting options | News, Sports, Jobs

SALEM Perry Township trustees are holding off on any change to their street lighting program with Ohio Edison, but may research whether a reassessment can take place for what residents pay.
Ohio Edison/First Energy spokesman Troy Rhoades explained the street lighting options Monday, noting that switching to all LED will increase the township’s monthly street lighting bill by nearly $350, not counting the $25,000 cost to install the bulbs on 120 poles.
He said another option would be a monthly payment plan to cover the $25,000 installation cost, which would come out to $532 per month for 60 months including an additional $7,000 for interest. That’s on top of the monthly fee of $1,196 for street lighting. ....

SALEM Perry Township Police Chief Mike Emigh said he’s looking for part-time police officers and cracking down on violations along the four-lane U.S. Route 62 bypass.
Emigh made the comments during his report to Perry Township trustees, who met in person Monday night for the first time in several months, also hearing reports from Fire Chief Brandon Smith and Road Supervisor Darreck Ferrell.
Emigh said they’re giving warnings right now regarding trucks using jake brakes but soon signs will go up on the U.S. Route 62 four-lane bypass and the citations will be issued. The township reapproved the sign purchase after learning the resolution had to include the specific road name. The cost is $355 for four signs. ....
