China Tower profit rise fuelled by 5G - Mobile World Live 08 MAR 2021 China Tower stepped up network investments in 2020, working with the country’s mobile operators to build 501,000 5G base stations and increased profit as revenue increased across all three business units. Net profit grew 23.1 per cent year-on-year to CNY6.4 billion ($980.2 million) and operating revenue increased 6.1 per cent to CNY81.1 billion. Revenue from its tower business rose 2.8 per cent to CNY73.37 billion and indoor distributed antenna system business by 32.7 per to CNY3.53 million. Turnover from trans-sector site application and information (TSSAI), and energy operation businesses soared 89.4 per cent to CNY3.94 billion. ....
News Analysis Robert Clark 3/8/2021 China s fast-tracked 5G rollout has lifted China Tower s full-year earnings 6.4 billion yuan (US$984.6 million), up 23.1%. The state-owned infrastructure firm boosted revenue 6.1% to 81.1 billion yuan ($12.4 billion), driven by the acceleration of the nationwide 5G deployment, with strong gains in all of its emerging business segments, the company reported Monday. The core tower business grew rent and services income just 2.8% to 73.4 billion yuan ($11.3 billion). While it recorded a promising surge in small cell revenue, up 19.3% to 785 million yuan ($120.3 million), its share of total sales was down two points to 91%. More than 117,000 tonnes of artificial sweeteners are consumed across the world each year and are accepted as safe food additives, but their effects on antibiotic resistance had been unknown. Associate Professor Jianhua Guo, from UQ’s Advanced Water Management Centre, said scientists investigated if artificial sweeteners would encourage the transfer of antibiotic resistance genes between bacteria. “Our previous studies have reported many common household items promote antibiotic resistance, so recently we started wondering if artificial sweeteners may also play a role,” Dr Guo said. ....
