This Valentine’s Day, The Friends of Cathedral Music are presenting a concert of Baroque music performed by the Cathedral Choral Scholars and Chamber Orchestra. The program includes selections from the three heavyweight composers of the Baroque era Johann Sebastian Bach, George Frideric Handel, and Antonio Vivaldi performed in the most apt place in Savannah to hear their music the Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist. “Well, this is where it’s supposed to be done,” said Paul Thornock, Director of Music at Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. “A building like this is the way this music supposed to be heard. A concert hall, I suppose you would be able to sit a little closer and you can take in much more of the visual elements of it, but in the cathedral, the building itself is behaving like one of the instruments. The acoustical properties of a building like this are really important to the grandeur of this music, and the way it would have been heard ....
