Questions continue surrounding the departures of Executive Director Cliff Skagen and Director of Online Learning Stacy Bender from Crosslake Community School.
Skagen resigned from his position Friday, March 12, and Bender was terminated from her position. The reason for their departures reportedly stems from a conflict of interest regarding Bender hiring Skagen’s wife for marketing and communication services, which violates the school’s anti-nepotism policy.

Crosslake Community School’s executive director resigned Friday, March 12, and the school’s director of online learning also is no longer with the charter school.
Cliff Skagen, executive director since January 2020, said Tuesday, March 16, in an emailed statement: “After lengthy consideration, I decided to resign from Crosslake Community School on March 12 to pursue other professional opportunities. I am proud of my accomplishments at CCS, which include increasing enrollment by 34 percent and bringing in approximately $1 million in new revenue. My family and I have come to love the Brainerd lake
