jihan risked her life along with the men, but traditional and high rules of conduct do not allow her to sit with them during dinner. she s relegated to what might be the called the kids table. what can one say, we who think of ourselves as more enlightened in this area? i don t know. rightly or wrongly, i said nothing. what does freedom mean? i don t know that either, i guess. for sure, it does mean the freedom to enjoy an afternoon that no one thought possible only a little while ago, the freedom, at least to joke, to laugh, to be for a while relatively carefree. misrata, libya. ....
