We’re on the last straight before the official launch of the new season of the World Judo Tour, since at the end of the week, the long-awaited moment will arrive. From 27th to 29th January, Grand Prix Portugal 2023 will take place in Almada, located on the southern margin of the Tagus River, on the opposite side of the river from Lisbon.
The IJF Academy is now a well-established institution, with impressive results. Since its inception, 5,864 registrations have passed through the Academy, of which 2953 have already graduated, from 130 countries. Under the patronage of the International Judo Federation, the Academy travels the world to provide high quality education for judo coaches. The objective is simple: to harmonise the level of judo education on the five continents and to provide professional training to the judo instructors of national federations, through online sessions, then practical sessions in the field, in direct contact with the coaches.
We parted ways at the end of 2022 after the last competition of the year, the World Judo Masters in Jerusalem. The least we can say is that it was an event that lived up to our expectations. Although the season was dense and intense, the best athletes on the planet threw their last strength into what will remain one of the most beautiful tournaments of recent years.
We love our champions and we love following them in their quest for medals and performance. Among them, Teddy Riner, ten times world champion and double Olympic champion, is undoubtedly one of the most followed judoka on the planet, if not, the most followed.
The Ghana Judo Association (GJA) is sad to inform the international judo family of the sudden death of Mr Emmanuel Tetteh, the President of the Association, who passed away on 6th January 2023.
