The forest department successfully revived a 40-year-old lactating mother elephant found ailing at the foothills of Maruthamalai. The elephant responded well to treatment and ate around 150kg of fodder. Treatment will continue for the third consecutive day on Saturday with hopes of recovery within two days.
Forest officers are making efforts to revive a sick female wild elephant at the foothills of Marudhamalai in the Coimbatore forest division. The elephant is accompanied by its three-month-old male calf. Veterinary officers are treating the elephant with fruits and glucose, suspecting liver cirrhosis.
A 52-year-old man was trampled to death by a wild elephant in Goalpara district on Sunday. The incident took place at the Kumarkhali reserve forest under the Lakhipur forest range in Goalpara district. The Goalpara district has been a high-intensity man-elephant conflict zone, with Lakhipur being the worst hit range. In the Lakhipur range around 35 deaths have been reported since 2020.
