The Howell City Council is moving on following the abrupt resignation of its city manager amid staff turmoil and an acknowledgment of unpleasantries , but no details on just what led to the departure of Paul DeBuff.
DeBuff submitted his resignation last Thursday, saying he appreciated the opportunity and wished the âCity, the Council, and staff the very best.â He served in the role for less than a year. Council met virtually Monday night and approved a motion to accept the resignation effective immediately and amend DeBuffâs employment agreement to provide two monthsâ severance of salary and benefits paid through July 6th, with vacation benefits to be paid out in lump sum per contract. Council approved a separate motion to appoint DPS Director Erv Suida as city manager.

Since Alzheimerâs and dementia arenât stopping, neither is a Brighton businesswoman who lost both of her parents to the disease.
Both of Barb Binkley s parents, Bob and Liz Laughery, succumbed to dementia and that experience has now energized her to raise try and awareness about what calls a horrible disease. She lost her mother in 2013 and then her father five years later.
Binkley, who along with her husband Mark owns Cooper & Binkley Jewelers in Downtown Brighton, says her mother was the first exposure in the family and the disease affected her parents in very different ways. Like many others, she said she didnât know what to expect and was suddenly making decisions for her mother while serving as a primary caregiver.

Commuters through Lyon Township should prepare for a road closure that will begin next week and stretch into fall.
The Road Commission for Oakland County says they will close Currie Road from Nine Mile to Ten Mile Road starting today through approximately early October as part of a $2.7 (m) million project thatâs mostly federally funded.
Road Commission Public Information Officer Craig Bryson tells WHMI itâs a pretty major project that will ultimately involve paving two miles of gravel roads and building two roundabouts. He says this year theyâre doing Nine Mile to Ten Mile and then next year theyâre doing Right Mile to Nine Mile. Current work to be done includes paving the 1-mile stretch with asphalt, installation of concrete curbs and gutters, improvements to drainage, and new signs and pavement marking to be added.
