Two divers cut their underwater excursion short earlier this month in West Lake Okoboji after a fast-moving boat passed too close for comfort. Jess Kotek and her husband Ronnie captured the incident on video, and they re hoping their brush with danger will spur boaters in the Iowa Great Lakes area to take a little more care while on the water.
The couple came down from Fairbault, Minnesota, intent on diving June 11 to celebrate Jess 40th birthday.
We had researched clear lakes close to us, Jess Kotek said. We dive mostly in Minnesota or when we re on vacation elsewhere, and one of our friends who had been out to Lake Okoboji said how clear it was and that it was a beautiful lake. So we came on their recommendation and because of the clarity of the lake. ....
