SCBOE releases final 3rd Ward primary vote Staff report SCIOTO- The final results for the 3rd Ward primary were released on Tuesday from the Scioto County Board of Elections, where the two highest vote recipients moved onto the November General Election. While the election took place May 4, ten absentee ballots that were mailed out had not been returned. It remained a possibility that the results may change with a gap of just five votes between Gary Jenkins and Jerry Skiver after May 4. Of those ten, four ballots were returned. Andy Cole added two more votes, bringing his final sum to 145 votes, and Gary Jenkins held his position also adding two votes. ....
Ten ballots remaining in 3rd Ward Primary PORTSMOUTH -The results from Tuesday’s 3rd Ward primary answered one question, but left one unanswered. What is known at this point is that Andy Cole will be moving on to the November General Election. He took 143 of the 290 tallied votes, good for nearly half of the votes. “Thank you (so) much for all your help,” he said in a Facebook post after the results were released from the Scioto County Board of Elections just before 9 p.m. on Tuesday. “It is a long road to the November election but I really appreciate everyone putting their trust in me.” ....
3rd Ward voters take part in Primary Staff Report PORTSMOUTH- On Tuesday, a portion of Scioto County voters were provided a chance along with many counties throughout Ohio to vote in the 2021 Primary election. That portion came solely from Portsmouth’s 3rd Ward, which makes up four of the county’s 77 voting precincts, whose vote went towards narrowing the council race down to two candidates. Four names appeared on the ballot, but only three were to be considered. Premier Kites and Designs Operations Manager Andy Cole, Portsmouth West High School student Gary Jenkins, and former teacher Jerry Skiver were those three candidates. ....
Early voting underway at courthouse By Patrick Keck - [email protected] SCIOTO Those wishing to participate in the 2021 election have fewer items on their ballots than last year’s election, but still possess a chance to participate in the civic duty. Since April 6, voters have been afforded the opportunity to beat the crowds by voting early at the Scioto County Board of Elections office. Among those that have voted early is 3rd Ward candidate Andy Cole, who shared his experience walking into the courthouse to cast his vote- presumably for himself- in a video on his Facebook campaign page. ....
Why the mayor won’t endorse a 3rd Ward candidate By Patrick Keck - [email protected] PORTSMOUTH In politics, it all comes down to who has your back. Having someone’s back can mean anything from a vote to also publicly proclaiming support through front-yard signs or Facebook posts. Endorsements of candidates are commonplace during any political season, regardless of what level. While the Scioto County Republican and Democrat parties backed the Trump-Pence or Biden-Harris ticket respectively last fall, they also pledged support to state and county candidates. The 2021 elections will not have the draw of a presidential or even a congressional vote, a hyper-focused local attention instead of the case. The game for these local candidates- races in Portsmouth and New Boston city councils- however remains the same: winning votes. ....
