BONHAM â May is officially Mental Health Awareness Month in Fannin County following Commissionersâ Court action Tuesday.
A proclamation read and approved for County Judge Randy Mooreâs signature draws attention to the importance of mental health to a personâs overall well-being, and it recognizes that the Covid-19 pandemic is one of many challenges that impacts mental health. While prevention is an effective way to reduce the burden of mental health conditions, there are practical tools all people can use to improve their mental health and increase resiliency, the proclamation states.
â(W)ith effective treatment, those individuals with mental health conditions can recover and lead full, productive lives,â it states, adding âeach business, school, government agency, health care provider, organization and citizen shares the burden of mental health problems and has a responsibility to promote mental health wellness and support prevention and treatmen
BONHAM â As construction on Bois dâArc Lake in Fannin County continues, construction on Lake Ralph Hall near Ladonia is about to get underway.
Both projects are the only new lake construction in Texas in about 35 years, and both are meant to help address water needs as the growing Dallas metroplex stretches further into Northeast Texas.
Larry Patterson, executive director for Upper Trinity Regional Water District, visited with Fannin County Commissioners on Tuesday to discuss Lake Ralph Hall. Plans call for construction to begin in June with possible wrap up by December 2025. The projectâs permit allows construction through December 2026, Patterson said.
BONHAM â Rising active Covid-19 cases in Fannin County are primarily contained within state prison units, Commissioner Jerry Magness reported Tuesday.
By Monday afternoon, active cases in the county had risen to 33 but 30 of those were either state prison staff or prisoners, Magness said. The county has had 3,464 total cases since March 2020, with 2,612 confirmed and 852 probable. There have been 108 virus-related deaths while 3,391 people have recovered, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services.
After hearing the updated numbers, commissioners approved without change another one-week extension for the countyâs Covid-19 disaster declaration and its response and continuity of operations plan.
