HE WILL BE missed. And he’ll be missed next week in RTÉ.
He was meant to be there, he was meant to be a pundit alongside myself and Derval. It’ll be a sad day. I think that’s when people will realise that Jerry’s not here anymore.

All of Brady s stats this season are pretty decent, but there were always seven or eight quarterbacks in the league with better numbers than him. Strangely, though, only one of them, Patrick Mahomes, is playing in the Super Bowl next Sunday. If Brady had retired or stayed another season in New England, the entire Buccaneers roster would be brushing up on their BBQ skills right now.
What I liked most about Tom Brady s contract with the Buccs was that it was a you eat what you kill type of contract. His two-year $50m deal had very few guarantees. It was a heavily incentivised pay as you play contract. Brady would have to play in every game and get his team to the Super Bowl to earn his $25m per annum. The money means nothing to him but no one can say now that he didn t earn it. ....

'Once an Olympian...' - Farewell to a friend Jerry

Many years ago when rehearsing an introduction to our coverage of the European Cross Country Championships, I referred to Jerry Kiernan as a former Olympian.
Jerry quietly suggested to me that using the term former could imply one was no longer an Olympian. He was correct, once an Olympian, always an Olympian. I quickly made the required adjustment to the script.
Jerry had a great sense of humour even if the attempt at hilarity was at his expense. On one occasion when he shared punditry duty with Ailís McSweeney, who was then our national record holder in the women s 100m, he barely batted an eyelid when I introduced them as the fast and furious of Irish athletics. ....
