The freshman class that Michigan signed last week is ranked 17th in the 247 composite rankings, 17th to Rivals, and 19th to On3, The class has, pending their pursuit of 5-star Nyckoles Harbor in the later signing period, zero top-100 players. This is quite clearly below the level Michigan normally recruits at. To have a class like that after a second straight year of beating Ohio State by three scores, winning the Big Ten championship, and going to the Playoff is, without question, a disappointment. I'm one of the people who kept saying over the first half-decade of Harbaugh that beating Ohio State was the key to unlocking a higher level of recruiting. So far, it has not. This has led to two major questions about the 2023 class, which might be seen as the optimistic and pessimistic versions of the same question: Pessimist: Why is a 13-0 Michigan recruiting like 8-5 Michigan? Optimist: Is this class like the 2018 class? Every other question is another form of what this all signifie ....
Transitioning to transforming transactions. Michigan's annual Grand Traverse weekend was an opportunity to test Harbaugh's new "We're transformational not transactional" motivational poster catch phrase for its approach to NIL. This atop their sluggish start to 2023 recruiting while those they mostly recruit against namely Notre Dame, Penn State, and Michigan State are cleaning up has created a sense there's a state of emergency in the recruiting department. Regarding the current class rankings, yeah man, Rutgers was Top 10 at this point last year. More concerning is (probably) missing out on two in-state 5-star quarterbacks, one a guy who's been working out with Devin Gardner for years, the other Lloyd Carr's grandson. That's probably not all about NIL, but it is true that Michigan's response to the new NIL realities has been, depending on whom you ask, somewhere between tepid and insanely naïve. The NCAA quickly abandoned the hill of ....

The Michigan Wolverines football stadium was built in 1927. (MGoBlue.com) âGOD SIMPLY DOES NOT WANT MICHIGAN TO WIN TODAY. THAT IS THE ONLY EXPLANATION,â he said (and truly believed it at the time). The funny part is, they went on to win the game. The losses over the years have taken a toll on the family, including my sister, Amber. It took her about a week to start interacting with humanity again after Michigan lost to Michigan State in 2001. My hometown of Westphalia, Mich., is a German Catholic village filled with countless diehard Wolverine fans, and the 2005 loss to Notre Dame, for example, hit the reader extra hard during Sunday Mass the following day. ....
