Property purchase increases size of Norton Park

The Colchester board of selectmen and board of finance recently approved the purchase of the residential property at 129 Westchester Road, which will add 1.2 acres to the new Norton Park, increasing its size to 6.4 acres.  
This purchase mirrored the first acquisition in 2015, when Nan Wasniewski sold the property at 139 Westchester Road to the town of Colchester for $1 with the stipulation the property be converted into a public park.  
The new park area has historical significance being the site of the former C.H. Norton Paper Mill in North Westchester on Route 149. The two properties also have environmental importance being along the Jeremy River and at the intersection of two greenways: Airline Rail Trail Greenway and Pine Brook Greenway. The park has many amenities planned for passive recreation and the enjoyment of visitors, with access to the Jeremy River.   ....
