THE Philippinesâ red tape watchdog is urging the World Bank (WB) to review the methodology of its flagship Doing Business report, raising concerns about the data collection method.
The World Bankâs annual Doing Business report assesses countriesâ competitiveness by measuring regulations that enhance and constrain business activity. This means, countries with fewer regulations will have a higher ranking on the Doing Business index, and boost their attractiveness to foreign investors.
Last year, the World Bank paused the release of the latest edition after reported irregularities regarding data changes in the 2018 and 2020 versions. It noted corrections would be incorporated in the 2021 report. ....

THE ANTI-RED Tape Authority (ARTA) is studying putting up one-stop shops for the processing of accreditation for coronavirus vaccination sites in response to alleged delays.
ARTA made the statement following a
Philippine Daily Inquirer report where Chinese General Hospital Manila Administrator Samuel Ang said hospitals have been noting excessive requirements to set up the sites. ....

THE Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has been set a seven-day deadline to organize a faster permit approval process for vaccine manufacturers, the Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA) said.
ARTA Director General Jeremiah B. Belgica on Friday met with the agencies and potential domestic vaccine manufacturers, the red tape regulator said in a statement.
President Rodrigo R. Duterte supported expedited permit processing after Trade Secretary Ramon M. Lopez said that the companies studying domestic manufacturing will need quick permit processing and priority for government procurement.
Mr. Lopez said among the four companies considering domestic manufacturing are United Laboratories, Inc., which has confirmed its interest in setting up a manufacturing facility. ....

LOCAL GOVERNMENT UNITS (LGUs) will be required to move their entire business permit application processes online by mid-June, the Anti Red Tape Authority (ARTA) said.
ARTA and other government agencies on Tuesday signed a joint memorandum circular (JMC) to standardize the online business registration process that would slash the number of required application forms to just one.
Under the circular, all LGUs have to set up the electronic business one-stop shop or automate their business processing and licensing systems by June 17.
Local governments that have fully put up an online business registration service must cut the number of steps to one. Those transitioning to a fully automated system must have a maximum of four steps under a hybrid manual and digital process. ....
