The Wisconsin Center in downtown Milwaukee will become a federal community COVID-19 vaccination clinic, state and federal officials announced Wednesday.
The site was set up as a central hub for vaccinations in Milwaukee and two weeks ago started receiving assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Gov. Tony Evers said then that the state would commit to providing at least 7,000 weekly vaccine doses from the state s allocation for the Milwaukee FEMA site, which opened to all eligible Wisconsin residents.
The new federal clinic will receive resources and staff to do 3,000 vaccinations each day, Evers office said in a statement.
Key to the new FEMA site is that it comes not only with staff support but also with vaccine doses from the federal government, said Julie Willems Van Dijk, deputy secretary of the Department of Health Services.
