Northrup died last Friday when he was struck and killed by a vehicle during an alleged robbery. He and his partner, both plainclothes officers, responded to a call around midnight at the parking garage under City Hall. ....

On a deeply personal level, Jones said she considered Northrup her lifesaver, as someone who validated her life when she navigated the darkness of postpartum depression.
“I wanted to die. I didn’t want to live anymore, and he checked in on me every single day to make sure I was OK,” she said. “He was just one of those people that was just so kind.”
The two had been friends for at least seven years.
“These people that are wearing the uniform are actually just phenomenal people trying to do good in the world,” Jones said.

It really made me think.
And then I got angry,
Why? Because in my view this senseless killing is likely a symptom of the rising anti-cop sentiment in Toronto and well beyond, coupled with weak politicians who enable all kind of illegal acts, punishing the lawful (with absurd COVID tickets for example) and giving the lawless a free pass.

Shrieking activists likely the same who want the name of Dundas St. changed and who tried to prevent the Trinity Bellwoods encampment from being cleared demand at every opportunity to “defund the police.”
What they mean is that less money should be assigned to law enforcement and more to social service agencies to counsel criminals, or shoot them up with illegal drugs using clean needles or, I guess, get to the root of their bad behaviour. ....
