Farmer City man, 1 other charged with stealing in excess of $2 million

FARMER CITY â A Farmer City man is one of two central Illinois residents who have been indicted in federal court in Peoria for fraud after they allegedly stole more than $2 million from the company they worked for as well as banks and customers.
Jeffrey Gibbs, 55, of Farmer City made his initial appearance in federal court, Peoria, this week. An initial trial date has been scheduled for March 15.
Gibbs was arrested Dec. 18. He was released following Mondayâs hearing with conditions that include location monitoring. Also indicted was Kara M. Wilkey, 45, of Maroa. A summons was issued for her to make her initial appearance Jan. 12. ....

2 Central Illinois Ex-Boat Dealer Managers Charged In $2M Fraud Scheme

Two former boat dealership employees are charged in a $2 million fraud scheme.
Federal prosecutors have charged two former employers of a central Illinois boat and watercraft dealership in an alleged $2 million fraud scheme.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for Central Illinois announced the charges Monday against Jeffrey Gibbs, 55, of Farmer City, and Kara Wilkey, 45, of Maroa.
Gibbs made his first appearance Monday in U.S. District Court in Peoria. Wilkey is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 12, 2021.
According to the indictment, Gibbs and Wilkey ran a scheme that defrauded their former employer, Clinton Marine, along with banks and the dealerships’ customers. ....

i saw them take three people out on stretchers. it s a frightening thing, as my neighbor said. i bought an alarm, because it is scary. many other who s lived in this building were treated on scene, including these young children who were taken away from their homes. the emergency forced 20 people to leave their homes, even if they weren t poisoned by the carbon monoxide. once the patients were treated, fire officials opened up the windows. they cracked open screens to ventilate the entire building. fire officials say a carbon monoxide level was in the single digits. this building had those levels in the hundreds. it s a very serious condition. good thing for the residents. assistant fire chief said tonight s freezing temperatures forced many people to turn on the heaters for the first time all year. and in some cases, those heaters haven t been serviced or maintained and that oversight can create a carbon monoxide leak. while those reaching for their heaters ....
