FORT DRUM â Fort Drum recently received U.S. Department of Defense approval to locate a STARBASE Academy on post for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics â or STEM â education. DoD STARBASE is a premier educational program sponsored by the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Manpower and Reserve Affairs, aimed at challenging students with âhands-on, minds-onâ STEM activities, while also exploring diverse and critical career fields. More than 70 military installations across the U.S. support the DoD STARBASE program, with more than 90,000 students participating annually. FORT DRUM â Fort Drum received favorable ratings for its on-post housing in a recent satisfaction survey released Wednesday. In a news release, Fort Drumâs positive trend continues as resident responses rank the installation fifth out of 43 in the recent Army Tenant Satisfaction Survey. With a 40.5% response rate, Fort Drum family housing residents rated their experience here two points higher than the last survey results released in June 2020. The surveyâs goal was 30%, according to the release. While Fort Drum family housing remains in the âVery Goodâ category overall, the most recent increase falls just short of two points from achieving an âOutstandingâ rating. ....
FORT DRUM â Fort Drumâs direct economic impact grew 8% this year and infused more than $1.4 billion into the north country economy despite the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the postâs annual report released for 2020. The installationâs direct economic impact to the tri-county area grew despite the financial crisis caused by the global pandemic, as outlined in the detailed review of the postâs annual report. Since Fiscal Year 1988, local support to this installation has enabled steady growth in training opportunities and readiness with a total cumulative investment by the U.S. Department of Defense of more than $28 billion. âOur partnership with the north country community is second to none and knowing we are making such a tremendous impact on the local economy reiterates to me how important Fort Drum is to our nationâs security,â said Maj.
