Nick Rush announced on Wednesday morning that he is not seeking re-election in the Virginia House of Delegates. Rush has represented the 7th House District, which covers the New River Valley, since he was first elected in November of 2011. “It has been a true honor and incredible privilege to have served in the General Assembly for the past 10 years and I will forever be humbled by the trust placed in me to carry out the people’s work,” Rush wrote on Facebook.

Radford University s Hemphill to lead Old Dominion University

Radford University President Brian Hemphill announced Friday that he’ll be leaving the school to lead Old Dominion University. Hemphill will remain in his role at Radford until the end of the fiscal year, June 30, before officially taking over as the ninth president of the Norfolk school sometime this summer. John Broderick, Old Dominion University s longest-serving president, announced last May that he would retire as president in the summer of 2021 after completing his 13th year as the school’s leader. Roanoke Fire-EMS deputy chief retires after 35 years ‘It’s exciting. It’s sad. It’s scary.’ Tags:  ROANOKE, Va. – After 35 years of service, Deputy Chief Billy Altman retires on Jan. 8. Deputy Chief Billy Altman began his career in public safety in 1980 as a volunteer at Roanoke Life Saving Crew. In 1985 Altman was hired as one of the City of Roanoke’s paid Paramedics employed to support the EMS volunteer program. In 1988, he was promoted to EMS Field Supervisor, overseeing the daily operations of the career EMS staff. In 1995, the City’s EMS program merged with the Fire Service and Altman was promoted to Captain within the new formed Roanoke Fire-EMS Department. In 2003 he was promoted to Battalion Chief of the Training Division and in 2007 was promoted to Deputy Chief of the Department.
