It doesn’t look like there will be an easy game for anyone in the Jefferson Bank Holiday Hoops Classic. “You know your first-round game will be a barnburner and there’s a really good chance all three of them will be as well,” Helias coach Garrett Wiggans said Wednesday during a press conference for the Classic, to be played Dec. 28-30 at Capital City High School.
It’s a streak the Helias Lady Crusaders would love to break. The Lady Crusaders have dropped their last three state basketball tournament games at Missouri S&T, scoring 37 points in each contest. Helias gets the chance to snap that skid tonight when the Lady Crusaders (21-7) take on the California Lady Pintos (21-6) in a Class 4 sectional contest in Rolla. Game time is 6 p.m.

The Helias Lady Crusaders closed the first half on a run. The 10-minute break at intermission didn’t slow them down. Helias scored eight of the final nine points of the second quarter to take a five-point lead at intermission, then outscored Jefferson City 29-12 in the second half to take a 54-32 victory in Central Missouri Activities Conference action Monday night at a packed Rackers Fieldhouse.
It hasn’t been the start to the season the Jefferson City Lady Jays wanted.
But they’re trying not to let it get to them as they prepare for the Jefferson Bank Holiday Hoops Tournament.
