When youve got rain measured in feet and not inches, thats one thing. Couple that with the storm surge of up to 10 feet. That triggered major flooding, for example, in the city of new bern, north carolina, overnight and throughout the day, hundreds of people have been rescued from floodwaters in new bern. At least five deaths have been blamed on the storm thus far, including a mother and baby who died when a tree fell on their house in the city of wilmington, north carolina.
