Just a month after joining Aussie banking giant CBA, Kiwi Mike Tod has already been tipped as a strong contender to become the bank s new head of corporate affairs. The former Air NZ executive has just lost his new boss, Priscilla Brown, who is finishing up at the end of May and heading back to the US. That s led to speculation Tod could take over her role as group executive of marketing and corporate affairs, although the Sydney Morning Herald noted he is expected to face competition from long-standing CBA executive and current chief marketing officer Monique Macleod. ....

On Tuesday, Air New Zealand released its latest traffic statistics. The results are mixed, but Air New Zealand is close to hitting 50% of pre-pandemic traffic numbers. In the financial year to the end of January 2021, Air New Zealand has carried 4,587,000 passengers. Over the same period across 2019/20, Air New Zealand flew 10,370,000 passengers. ....

In a 12 February letter to the airline’s chairman Therese Walsh, posted the same day to New Zealand’s Exchange (NZX), the country’s deputy prime minister and minister of finance Grant Robertson confirms the government’s “longstanding commitment to maintaining a majority shareholding in Air New Zealand given the critical role that the airline has in New Zealand’s economy and society”.
