At this point in the pandemic, institutional investors are ready and willing to make additional investments in private markets, particularly through venture capital and growth equity investments, according to Eaton Partners.
The fund placement agent, which is part of Stifel Financial, on Wednesday released its latest limited partner pulse survey, which questioned LPs about their views on alternative investments. When asked about how soaring public market valuations have impacted their opinions of private market investments, over half of participants reported that private markets look more attractive to them now. This figure indicates a shift from the firm’s September 2020 pulse survey, which found that nearly half of investors were not currently looking to make changes in their capital market allocations. ....

LPs Say Track Records Matter Most for Private Capital Investments

For private market investors, by far the most important consideration when evaluating managers is track record.
This is according to a recent poll of institutional investors conducted by placement agent Eaton Partners. Nearly three-quarters of surveyed investors said they considered track record the most important a view that has become more common in recent years, according to Peter Martenson and Jeff Eaton, partners at the firm, which is owned by Stifel Financial.
“Track record trumps all,” Martenson said during a Zoom meeting with press on Thursday.
By comparison, factors such as fees, terms, fund size, and environmental, social, and governance considerations were seen as less essential, with only two percent of respondents citing fees and terms as the most important consideration.
