Survey Tracks Christmas Shopping Patterns During Pandemic

More than half of those surveyed (52%) bought gifts online and had them delivered to their homes.
Field Agent Canada spokesperson Jeff Doucette said the large volume resulted in delays for the post office and couriers with many noting (38%) at least one gift did not arrive in time for Christmas.
A small percentage (10%) bought online and then picked up at the store.
Doucette noted how Canadians also showed their love for local with almost a quarter spending their money at locally-owned stores.
The sale of gift cards was down this year (11% of total spending) with Doucette thinking the uncertainty of some retailers during the pandemic lockdowns and shutdowns may have dampened demand. ....

First doses of COVID-19 administered today in Philadelphia

The first COVID-19 vaccines were administered to Philadelphians on Wednesday morning.
Jefferson University Hospital on 11th Street in Center City was among the few hospitals here to receive doses of the vaccine manufactured by Pfizer and BioNTech. The first doses at Jefferson were given at 7:30 a.m.
âItâs precious. Itâs like liquid gold,â said Dr. Sandra E. Brooks, a chief medical officer for the Jeffersonâs Center City division, about the vaccine.
Around 10:30 a.m. Brooks stood inside the hospitalâs Anthony F. DePalma Auditorium, where two of the hospital s four vaccine stations were set up. Sixteen vaccines were given every hour. ....
