Jeep has used the Cherokee name on the Jeep Cherokee since 1974.
Chuck Hoskin Jr., Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation, said he wants the name changed.
He told Car and Driver it s time for corporations to retire Native American names from products.
Jeep has been building the Cherokee SUV since the 1970s, but nearly 50 years later, there s a chance it could soon be called something else. The Cherokee Nation wants the automaker to stop using its name - marking the first time the tribe has officially requested a change, but not the first time the discussion has come up. ....

The three-row version of the SUV is predictably more expensive than the existing two-row model, which will get redesigned for 2022.
Jeep has released pricing for the new three-row version of the Grand Cherokee, the 2021 Grand Cherokee L.
It starts between $2975–$6280 higher than the equivalent two-row Grand Cherokee models.
The Grand Cherokee L will go on sale this spring.

The long-awaited V-8-powered Wrangler hits dealers this spring, but it won t be cheap.
The V-8–powered Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 will go on sale by the end of the spring, initially available as a fully loaded launch edition (pictured above). This 470-hp version of the Wrangler is only available with four doors, and the launch edition will start at $74,995. Cheaper models should follow soon after. (If you were wondering, Ford said that the 2021 Ford Bronco, the Wrangler s new competitor, won t offer a V-8.)

Jeep has teased official factory half-doors with canvas windows since the debut of the JL-generation Wrangler in 2017. Now, they ve finally become a factory option.
Starting today, Jeep will offer a Dual-Door Group option package on two- and four-door Wranglers of every trim line. Buyers who choose the option will receive their new Wrangler with full steel doors installed, and the new half-doors with zip-out windows in the trunk. ....
