Virtual meeting to look at town s needs The city of Helena and Lewis and Clark County will have a virtual Community Needs Assessment public hearing at 5:30 p.m. on March 4, to review public assets and to assess challenges in making Helena a better place to live. The hearing will address housing, economic development, neighborhood revitalization and community and public facilities. Come prepared to discuss current or anticipated projects that pertain to these areas, particularly those targeting low- and moderate-income residents. There will also be a discussion on prospective funding sources: the Community Development Block Grant Program, the Home Investment Partnership Program and the Treasure State Endowment Program. ....
Lewis & Clark Library is offering laptop/mobile hotspot kits to its checkout collection. Beginning last week, the Augusta, East Helena, Lincoln and Main branches of the Lewis & Clark Library began offering a ChromeBook/HotSpot combo and a HP/HotSpot combo available for two-week checkout. Each branch will have two available kits to check out. The HotSpots and the HP Laptops were provided by the Montana State Library, using Library Services and Technology Act funding that is provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Each branch (Augusta, East Helena, Lincoln and the Main Branch) has a Chromebook/HotSpot available for checkout as well as an HP/HotSpot combo for checkout. ....
When Mariah Silva asked for help from Catholic Charities for her children’s Christmas, she was thinking of clothes and shoes. She never expected Santa Claus to arrive at her front door on Christmas Eve in a FedEx truck loaded with gifts for her three children, Giovanni, 8, Jayden, 5, and Sophia, 3. “When I applied, I didn’t know it was going to turn into such a big thing,” Silva said. Each year since the 1990s, Catholic Charities has been matching families with donors who want to help provide a special Christmas. This year they matched about 125 families. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, they were not able to provide for the 75-95 families who often show up for a walk-in day at Catholic Charities. These are families that didn t apply in time to be matched. ....
