Cedar Rapids Police say half of targeted homes and cars arent even locked. In addition to that, police saieves arent just looking for cash and electronics anymore. The cases of counterfeit and forged checks have doubled in the last year. Investigators say some checks are washed or erased and then copied or forged for huge amounts. Banks encourage customers to use checks with high quality paper and even ink thats hard to erase. They say also helps to have a bank that knows you. Were always looking for anything that might be out of the norm for ou say theres a big gap in checking sequence for example or a large amount thats been written on an account that our customer typically wouldnt do. Thats a red flag for us and we want to investigate that and take extra precautions. Police are also warning its not a good idea to mail checks from an unlocked mailbox.
