Village Board Approved Annual Budget | News, Sports, Jobs

David Prenatt SHERMAN At their regular meeting April 14, Sherman Village Board members approved a 2021-22 budget in the amount of $995,553, which includes a tax levy increase of 2.27%, but for most residents, a decrease in their tax bill. Sherman Mayor Colleen Meeder told board members that, because of a large amount of new value in taxable assessments, most residents should see their tax rate decrease by about 44 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value. “Unless you have done renovations or had a market adjustment, you will actually see a reduction in your tax bill,” Meeder said. The overall assessed value throughout the village increased $1,369,156 Meeder said, while the tax levy is being increased by $5,715. At the same time, the tax rate decreased from 10.75 per $1,000 of assessed valuation down to 10.32 per $1,000 of assessed valuation, she said.

Village Could See Tax Rate Decrease, Levy Increase | News, Sports, Jobs

Colleen Meeder SHERMAN Budget projections for the village of Sherman indicate that residents will see a decrease in the tax rate; however, the overall tax levy will increase, board members learned at their regular meeting March 3. Village Mayor Colleen Meeder told board members that the tax rate should decrease by 43 cents per $1,000 assessed property value. The tax rate for the fiscal year from June 1, 2021, to May 30, 2022 is projected to be $10.32 per $1,000, which is a decrease from the current rate of $10.75 per $1,000 assessed value, Meeder said. Meeder is proposing a 2.75% increase in the tax levy. However, Meeder explained, due to a village-wide increase of $1.4 million in property assessments residents who improved their properties will probably see an increase in taxes, while those whose assessment remained the same should see a decrease, she said.

Sherman Water Project Ready To Move Ahead | News, Sports, Jobs

editorial@post-journal.com SHERMAN The village of Sherman will soon advertise the water system improvement project for bids having received board members’ approval at their meeting this month. Resolution 2021-02-03.16 authorizing the clerk-treasurer to advertise the project, at the discretion of the mayor, passed unanimously. Village Mayor Colleen Meeder said, “This is very exciting.” Meeder told board members that Matt Zarbo, project engineer from Barton & Loguidice, said everything is ready to move ahead. She said they hope the bids can be accomplished this month. In the fall of 2019, the village applied for grants to complete upgrades for the water system. These grants were made possible because the village was classified as a “great hardship” by the Environmental Facilities Corporation (EFC).
