March 10, 2021BRISTOL It was a slow start for the WMRHS Spartan hoop girls, who didn t seem to find their spark until it was too late during a quarterfinal game in Bristol on Sunday, as the team was defeated by a strong Newfound team, 44-35.
Newfound was the first to score with 6:24 on the clock and was up 4-0 less than a minute later. The Spartans had 10 turnovers with 1:46 to go in the first quarter, causing some early trouble. With five minutes to go, Newfound drained two foul shots and was up by six points. Spartan Jaylen Bennett put her team on the board after scoring one from the foul line. Alyssa Fryman snagged a rebound, then sent the ball to teammate Kelsea Graham, who scored two on a layup, making it a 6-3 game with 2:45 on the clock. Newfound answered with a three-point shot.
