Wright IV’s assist to Battey in the opening minutes broke Jay Humphries’ previous school record of 562 assists. BOULDER McKinley Wright IV broke Colorado s all-time assist record and freshman Jabari Walker posted his second straight double-double Thursday as the Buffaloes rolled to an 89-60 win over Cal at the CU Events Center. The Buffs recorded their third straight win to improve to 10-3 overall and 4-2 in Pac-12 play while Cal fell to 6-8, 1-6. Wright entered the game needing just one assist to break a tie and move past former Buffs great Jay Humphries 37-year old record of 562 assists. He accomplished the feat less than three minutes in when he dished off to Evan Battey for a layup. Wright then added an exclamation point, finishing with a career-high 12 assists to go with 13 points for his second double-double of the season and 13th of his career. ....
BOULDER – University of Colorado senior guard McKinley Wright IV was named the Pac-12 Conference Men s Basketball Player of the Week, for the second time this season, the league office announced on Monday. Wright becomes the first Colorado men s basketball player to win four conference Player of the Week honors during his career; he had been tied at three with Chauncey Billups and Askia Booker. Wright is the third player in the Pac-12 era to earn two Player of the Week honors in one season, joining Josh Scott (2015-16) and Askia Booker (2013-14). A native of North Robbinsdale, Minn., Wright scored 21 points and dished out seven assists in Colorado s lone game last week, a 74-64 triumph over Grand Canyon at the Far West Classic in Las Vegas. He made 8 of 14 from the floor and 4 of 5 from the free throw line to help the Buffaloes to their fourth-straight win. ....
