Former Laurelton Center in Union County sold at tax sale for more than $1 million

Former Laurelton Center in Union County sold at tax sale for more than $1 million Updated Apr 01, 2021; LEWISBURG – The former Laurelton Center in western Union County has been sold at a tax sale for slightly more than $1 million. Jay Fulkroad, who owns a construction business in McAlisterville, paid $1,039,000 for the 266-acre main campus and another 5.99-acre parcel, Jeffrey McClintock said Thursday. McClintock is the county finance director. Fulkroad said he could not at this time disclose his plans for the former Department of Public Welfare facility for the mentally handicapped along Route 45 that closed in 1998. The county sold the properties owned by Mountain Valley Inc. and headed by Gary E. Murphy, a Dayton, Maryland, businessman, due to non-payment of taxes.
