French and his two friends Charlie Robinson and Jay Dreaver, all aged 18, were in a Hilux driving along a dirt road near Southbridge, 45 kilometres south-west of Christchurch, at about 7pm on Thursday when they spotted Maddison’s bike.
The teenagers jumped out of their vehicle to check on him.
Maddison, wearing gumboots, jeans a T-shirt, and a polar fleece, was “stone-cold”.
“I was like, ‘Oh mate, are you OK? What’s happened”. he said to me in a quiet kind of tone, ‘I’ve fallen off my motorbike a couple of days ago, and I’ve been here because I can’t move, I can’t feel my whole body.” ....
