The Kodiak Island Borough Assembly has OKâd a $2.3 million project to fix a retaining wall leased to Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center.Â
The project, which was originally projected to cost $1.2 million, aims to upgrade the wall, which is located next to the hospital parking lot and has started crumbling as the result of prolonged exposure to Kodiakâs weather.
Architects who surveyed the damage said âsoftball-sized debrisâ had fallen from the wall.Â
Last year, the architecture company hired to conduct the design of the project said the wall would become structurally unsound within two to five years if no repairs were made.Â
