The Walled Lake Western Warriors saw their season come to an end in the regional finals Friday night, dropping a 44-41 overtime thriller to the Mason Bulldogs.
Walled Lake Western got both goals a district title and a rematch with Mason all wrapped up together nicely with the No. 5-ranked Warriors’ ground-pounding 50-22 win over No. 8 Auburn Hills Avondale in Friday’s Division 3 district finals.
No. 9-ranked Lakeland traded haymakers with No. 3 Walled Lake Western for a half in Friday’s Lakes Valley Conference showdown for first place, but the defending champs scored before the break to take the lead, then rode its running game to five unanswered touchdowns in a 56-21 win.
Gavin Noonan ran for 221 yards and three touchdowns, and Jaxon Lippert added a pair of scores, as the Walled Lake Western Warriors pounded out 390 yards on 50 carries, overwhelming Waterford Mott in a 42-27 win at the Xenith Prep Kickoff Classic at Wayne State on Thursday.
