The crash occurred at the intersection of Taft and Eisenhower at 12:20 p.m. Thursday, according to Loveland Police Department Sgt. Jeff Mayers. He said the semi was headed west on Eisenhower when it ran a red light, hitting a Ford F150 that was attempting to turn north onto Taft.
No one was injured, but a truck and its contents sustained damage on Saturday after it rolled into a retention pond near the Barnes Softball Complex on South Lincoln Avenue.
Bob Coleman, spokesperson for the department, said the Loveland Police Department is investigating the incident as an arson. While he was not able to provide specific details, he said evidence at the scene lead investigators to determine the fire was lit intentional and that the department is currently working to identify a suspect; he did add that there were reports of people fleeing the area.
“We were figuratively tapped on the shoulder, and I think we rose to the occasion as what I see as one of our finest hours collectively as an organization," Capt. Ben Andersen said.
