For the first time ever, Air Force personnel livestreamed F-35 Lightning II data directly from the aircraft’s mission systems computers to a connected computer tablet during a recent ground test at The event was a milestone for the Fighter Optimization eXperiment, or FoX, a project that seeks to rapidly integrate advanced software and hardware technologies to maximize the F-35’s lethality and survivability, while creating an agile development test tool and fielded combat multiplier for all Defense Department aircraft. “In order to stay competitive, we have to innovate,” said Lt. Col. Raven LeClair. “It’s as simple as that. We are trying to find ways to go faster for less money, to bring more capability per dollar, and to push more capabilities to the warfighter more quickly … We want to shift timelines from capabilities being fielded in years to being fielded in a matter of months or weeks; both hardware and software.”
