Electric scooters in Green Bay: City OKs Bird pilot project e-scooters

GREEN BAY – The ghosts of former bike share programs still stripe the sidewalks of Green Bay. But electric scooters are coming to town despite the city s Lime-lined past and many residents, including the mayor, are ready for the pilot program to take flight.
“We’re excited to start this partnership with Bird on a piloted basis. This is something we’ve been talking about at our Common Council for quite some time,” said Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich.
The council has officially approved the partnership with Bird Rides Inc., which will release 100 e-scooters to the public. But logistics such as a date to deploy the scooters and other boots-on-the-ground matters are still up for discussion in a meeting next week between the company and the city. According to the memorandum of understanding, the pilot program is a way to evaluate how desired e-scooters will be on a long-term basis. The pilot program runs until Dec. 31, pending u ....

A former Uber Technologies executive, Travis VanderZanden, helped to start Bird in 2017.
