More than 1,000 Muskogee teachers and school employees are getting their first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Up until now, Muskogee teachers were relying on Saint Francis and the health department for the vaccine, but one local pharmacy stepped up to make the process move quicker for everyone. I m really happy to be able to make a difference make this happen for people, said Rebecca Schiller, owner of Economy Pharmacy.
Rebecca said it s been all hands on deck for weeks, ever since she got the call from Pfizer that they would be getting a shipment of the vaccine.

Muskogee Public Schools Dealing With Damage Caused By Winter Weather
Muskogee Public Schools are still dealing with flooding and power issues from last week s winter storms. The 6th grade academy and high school were affected, sending students into virtual learning for the time being. I call it the trifecta; I started out with the flood last year, then we had the pandemic, and now the ice storm. So, all those things really have affected us tremendously, Muskogee superintendent Jarod Mendenhall told News On 6.
He says on Tuesday of last week, school leaders found some parts of Muskogee High School flooded due to pipes bursting from the cold and spewed water across campus. Electrical units were also frozen, and power was shut off.

The non-instructional snow days will be Wednesday through Friday, Feb. 19th.
Superintendent Dr. Jarod Mendenhall said they understand the rolling power outages and winter weather are making virtual instruction difficult.
“MPS understands that rolling electrical outages and the extreme weather conditions are making it difficult to consistently continue with virtual instruction,” said Superintendent Dr. Jarod Mendenhall. “Therefore, we will complete virtual instruction today and will be taking the next three days as snow days which will be made up at the end of the school year.”
Officials said students should check their school emails for more information.
Officials stated more information regarding the calendar and make-up days due to the snow days taken will be announced in the future.
