The Marco Island Police Foundation named Marco Island Police Det. Lorenzo Smith their officer of the year at a Covid-19 reduced-sized luncheon at the Hideaway Beach Club last week.
Marco Island Police Captain Richard Stoltenborg made the presentation to Smith, who joined the department in 2016 as a patrol officer. The detective was accompanied by his parents, Frank and Carmela, as well as his girlfriend, Victoria Mann.
“Detective Smith has brought real world experience to his job and he has been recognized for his service with awards from Collier EMS, the Marco Island City Council and the MIPD,” said Captain Stoltenborg during the presentation ceremony. ....

Marco Island buys Medical Arts Center building for $2.23M

The newly-configured City Hall campus will represent significant service upgrades for the citizens of Marco Island for years to come, McNees wrote Monday.
The about 9,100-square-foot building, next to the City Hall campus on 1310 San Marco Road, would become a service center for people requesting permits from the building department, McNees said in October.
The department currently is located in the City Hall building, which was acquired by the city in 2001.
You can t walk through there in the middle of a workday because there are too many people, McNees said.
The city made the purchase using equal amounts of reserves from the building department funds and general fund, McNees said. ....

Marco Island council to evaluate rezoning for assisted living facility

NCH, the current owner of the parcel, would subsequently sell five of its 10 acres to finance the construction of a new health facility building, replacing the existing one, Chancey said. NCH would renovate the building next door that houses medical offices.
The only net new building will be the assisted living facility because the urgent care will be a replacement of an existing building, Chancey said.
NCH would sell more than three of the remaining five acres to Marco Island Senior Living LLC, leaving the rest for the construction of a park, as stated in the report.
Proceeds of the land sale would stay on Marco Island to be used to help fund the construction of a proposed new urgent care center pending NCH Board approval, Shawn McConnell, director of marketing and communications with NCH, wrote in an email Wednesday. ....
