Police declared an unlawful assembly and arrested three people Friday afternoon after people affiliated with Proud Boys and anti-fascists clashed in downtown Salem following concurrent peaceful protests earlier in the day.
Non-lethal munitions, including flash-bang grenades, were used to disperse the crowd, while Salem Police reported that smoke canisters and lit fireworks were thrown at them. At least one fight between counter-protesters also occurred before the groups were separated. ....

Police declared an unlawful assembly among protesters Friday afternoon in downtown Salem and used non-lethal munitions including flash bangs to disperse the crowd after separating opposing groups of protesters.
Salem Police Lt. Debbie Aguilar said the department had made several arrests, but didn t give the names of those arrested.
Salem Police reported protesters have used chemical munitions against them. A yellow smoke canister was thrown at the police, as were lit fireworks.
The rallies started peaceful Friday and two sides stayed separate in the first part of the afternoon. ....
