Jude Barber, Janice Kirkpatrick and Neil Gillespie join the ranks of RSE Fellows, March 2022, News, Architecture and the built environment is an integral part of our society and we hope to provide a useful platform for debate, information and inspiration.
The win was obviously appreciated by Janice Kirkpatrick who the film follows on her efforts to find black Clydesdales. “Ross (her husband), and I are thrilled that the documentary has won such a prestigious award. We’ve celebrated sharing a bag of carrots with the horses,” she told Yorkton This Week via email. “We were thrilled to receive the award for Documentary POV at the oldest film festival in North America. Everyone loves to win at Yorkton and we’re no exception,” added co-producer Dugald Maudsley. The win is likely to have something of a ripple effect for those involved.
THERE has been much talk recently, at least in theory, in some political circles concerning levelling up in order to make life fairer and more equitable. In real life, however, the actuality at times demonstrates that the general trajectory can be in the opposite direction ( Music lessons will soon be only for pupils from well-off families , The Herald, December 28). I believe it to be an indictment of our societal values when one reads that schools in Scotland are reported to be rapidly moving to the situation where only pupils from wealthy families are able to afford music lessons. Situations like this serve to confirm that we are still far removed from people in our country succeeding only on merit.

Scotland’s treasured draught horse the Clydesdale is to become a big star of the small screen this Christmas when the BBC airs a documentary about the battle to preserve the breed.
Like many of the British heavy horses, the Clydesdale is now classed as vulnerable by the Rare Breeds Survival Trust, having suffered the loss of its primary role since the onset of mechanisation.
Clydesdale: Saving the Greatest Horse is produced by the BBC, in partnership with Screen Scotland and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, and follows Clydesdale enthusiast Janice Kirkpatrick as she travels to the Canadian Prairies to source a rare black mare from a bloodline “lost” to the UK.
