Along the Gulf Coast we expected from such a storm. It ripped the roof off the lady of the Sea Hospital in galliano which is south of New Orleans. You can see the damage in louisiana there. Tonight, as we mentioned, the power is out for hundreds of thousands of people. Louisiana Governor John Bell edwards says his states entire National Guard is activated. More than 4,000 are out in support of the emergency effort, but officials are warning residents to prepare for at least three days of sheltering in place. This historic hurricane comes on the 16th Anniversary of another historic hurricane, katrina. Thankfully, officials expect the levees in the new Orleans Area to hold this time. This is a compounded problem because they need that for a lot of things, including Pumping Water away from the levees. Let me be clear, we have no reports of damage to levees. Theres reports of Flash Flooding and an emergency that has been issued by the weather service, but thats not pursuant to damage of the levees. Lets begin with ali in New Orleans, where the power has been out for some time, and it looks like its going to be out for a while. Reporter yeah, joshua, were in the 11th Hour since landfall of this storm, and its still whipping up. You can see this water behind me in New Orleans, which wasnt sort of inside of the center of this hurricane to start with. So its a very, very powerful storm, and its mostly hitting New Orleans on the backside of this thing. We saw It Pop Up in wind about 2, 2 1 2 hours ago, to pretty intense. It has been 12 hours since i had a reuters sure in louisiana, on the 16th Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. But even as it has been downgraded from a hurricane for two hurricane one, over those 12 hours ida is wreaking havoc, especially from the Storm Surge its leaving in its wake. Authorities the last hour reported a Levee Failing about lafitte just south of New Orleans and officials warn that more than 200 people are in intimate danger there and need to seek higher ground. One death has been confirmed elsewhere in the states, a 60yearold Man was killed when his house was hit by a fallen tree near Baton Rouge. And the entire city of New Orleans is in the dark tonights, the Power Companies say its catastrophic transmission damage. The number of people without power throughout louisiana, is now more than 1 Million, and rising. And there are fears that some of those people could remain without power for weeks.
