U.S. Senate race takes backseat at Ohio Trump rally


A plane circled over the Lorain County Fairgrounds on a hot Saturday afternoon, towing a banner that proclaimed, Ohio is Trump country   followed by the website for Jane Timken s Senate campaign.
Down on the ground, candidates fighting for the GOP nomination in 2022 passed out flyers and mingled with Donald Trump s supporters before he took the stage at his first rally since leaving the White House. 
Although the former president was front and center, the event served as an opportunity for Ohio s Republican Senate candidates to show off their Trump connections and persuade voters that they ll further his agenda.
But the race took a back burner to other contests being eyed by Trump next year, and observers say it s possible no one will get the coveted endorsement that would boost their campaign in a crowded field. ....

Jane Timken, U.S. Senate candidate, launches voter contact operations


 – Jane Timken entered the Stark County Republican Party headquarters to welcoming eyes and applause.
Timken, the former Ohio Republican Party leader, is running for U.S. Senate after Sen. Rob Portman decided not to seek re-election in 2022.
Former state Treasurer Josh Mandel and businessman Bernie Moreno also are seeking the Republican nomination. U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan is expected to run for the Democrats. 
Timken, a longtime Stark County resident, jumpstarted her campaign Tuesday by launching canvassing and phone bank operations in central and northern Ohio, the first 2022 campaign to start such efforts. 
Timken told The Canton Repository that she is a huge believer in reaching out to voters and listening. She said the last election cycle, we set a record here in Ohio with 13 million voter contacts. ....

FirstEnergy customers to get refunds, after Gov. Mike DeWine signs bill: Capitol Letter

HB-nixed: With little fanfare, Gov. Mike DeWine on Wednesday signed House Bill 128, which repeals the cornerstone of the scandal-ridden House Bill 6: a $1 billion-plus bailout of two Northern Ohio nuclear power plants. As Jeremy Pelzer reports, HB128 also repeals an HB6 “decoupling” provision that allows FirstEnergy Corp. to collect a comparatively high amount of money from customers, as well as a separate measure making it easier for FirstEnergy to pass state limits on significantly excessive profits.
Return policy: FirstEnergy says that, as a result of HB128, it will refund $26 million to customers collected under its “decoupling” policy. As Pelzer explains, the Akron-based utility said it will work with state regulators to determine how much money each customer will get, along with how and when ....
