Elections will run a bit differently in this city from now on, after the Belding City Council on Tuesday voted to approve changes to the polling locations and the number of precincts. With Mayor Bruce Myers absent, the council voted 4-0 to approve splitting the city into two precincts instead of three and relocating all voting to the Belrockton Historical Museum instead of having two polling locations.
Janae Ortego, the clerk for the city of Belding, was recently awarded the Michigan Professional Municipal Clerk (MiPMC) designation by the Michigan Association of Municipal Clerks (MAMC). The MiPMC program was launched in 2014 to encourage city, township and village clerks to seek continuing education specifically related to the duties of Michigan clerks. MAMC believes a focus on education is essential for municipal Clerks to proved informed, quality leadership for their communities in the face of constant legislative change and increased demands on Michigan's public servants.
