The Show must go on: 'Stickman' at the Rose Theatre. Veda Dharwar, LEH

When London was plunged into the tier three of the coronavirus restrictions on December the 16th, causing a complete shutdown of the theatre industry, the Rose Theatre’s winter run of ‘Stickman’ was unable to proceed as usual. However, the production was recorded one last time this year before restrictions came into force, and the link was distributed, allowing the show to go on.
‘Stickman’ is the uplifting story of a living stick who is thrust into a series of misadventures and misunderstandings, while trying to return home to his ‘family-tree’ in time for Christmas, and be reunited with his children and his ‘lady love’. Stickman first encounters an impish dog who wants to play fetch with him, and is later tossed into a river, swept out to sea, and nearly burnt in a fire, among other things. Stick Man comes to life with the jovial Christmas spirit at the Rose Theatre, Kingston! This production is an adaptation from Freckle Productions, of the multi award-winning children’s author and Children’s Laureate of 2011-2013, Julia Donaldon’s perennial bestseller “Stick Man”. The play, directed by Mark Kane, has been on act since Thursday 10th December and will continue to be up until Thursday 3rd January in the new year, bringing delightful smiles to the many children as well as adults that attend.
Stick Man is adapted from the book by Julia Donaldson, the world-renowned author of some of the world s best loved children s books, most notably the modern classic, “The Gruffalo”.
