14 Hefazat leaders meet Bangladesh Home Minister Tue, Apr 20 2021 12:24:42 PM By Sumi Khan Dhaka, Apr 20 (IANS): Fourteen top leaders of the Hefazat-e-Islami militant outfit met Bangladesh Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan and members of intelligence agencies in an effort to find a compromise following the widespread violence in the country. The meeting took place on Monday night at around 10 p.m. at Khan s residence in the capital city. The 14 Hefazat leaders included General Secretary Nurul Islam, Nayeb-e-Amir Mahfuzul Haque, Khilafah Movement chief Ataullah Hafezji and his nephew Maulana Habibullah Miaji. Seeking anonymity, one of the militant leaders said they demanded that no more leaders or militant members should be arrested . ....

One GM Alamgir Shahin filed the case, accusing Mamunul and seven other named and some 70-80 unnamed persons, accusing them of attempt to murder, vandalism, looting a Samsung mobile phone set, Tk 7,000, US$ 2,000 and a Brac Bank debit card during an attack at a local mosque, and also threatening the mosque authorities. The plaintiff also alleged that the accused carried out the attack when the mosque authorities were holding a sermon around 8:40pm on March 6, 2020, which also hurt religious sentiments. ....
Hefazat leader Mamunul put on seven-day remand A Dhaka court on Monday placed Hefazat-e Islam Joint Secretary General Mamunul Haque on a seven-day remand in a case filed last year with Mohammadpur Police Station. Metropolitan Magistrate Debdash Chandra Adhikary passed the order after Sub-inspector of the police station Md Sajedul Haque submitted the remand prayer before the court. Mamunul was produced before the court amid tight security in and around the court premises. A joint team of Tejgaon Division police and DMP’s Detective Branch arrested Mamunul from Jamia Rahmania Arabia Madrasa in Mohammadpur on Sunday afternoon. Later, he was shown arrested in the case filed in March 2020 over vandalism by activists of the Qawmi madrasa-based organisation in the capital’s Mohammadpur area. ....

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate, Debdash Chandra Adhikary, passed the order after the sub-inspector of the police station, Md Sajedul Haque, submitted the remand prayer before the court.
