The Jamestown Urban Renewal Agency has agreed to continue a contract for demolition services with the Chautauqua County Land Bank Corp.

The Jamestown Urban Renewal Agency (JURA) will continue demolition services for the Chautauqua County Land Bank Corp.
On Thursday, JURA held its first meeting of the year and approved continuing a contract with the land bank for demolition services for $850,000. Crystal Surdyk, city development director, said the continuation of the contract dates back to an agreement made in 2018.
“We are most of the way through the contract,” she said. “We will wrap up any properties left for demolition. (The contract) is in its last year. We just need to approve a continuation.” ....

[LISTEN] Free Online Seminar for Property Owners Living in Historic Tax Districts is Wednesday
JAMESTOWN – Residents who live in three different Historic Districts in the city are invited to attend a seminar on Wednesday night that focuses on historic tax credits.
The Wellman Building, 403 Lakeview Ave., and 11 Broadhead Ave. are all properties that have an opportunity to participate in the Historic District Tax credit program.
The three districts are the city’s Downtown Historic District, the Lakeview Historic District, and the Forest Heights Historic District.
Properties located in these three districts are eligible for both
New York State and Federal Rehabilitation Tax Credits that can cover as much as 40% of qualified rehabilitation expenses. ....

City officials are applying for up to $500,000 in state funding to improve buildings along East Second Street.

City of Jamestown officials are eyeing a state grant to improve buildings along East Second Street.
Crystal Surdyk, city development director, said city officials will be applying for a New York State Main Street grant for up to $500,000 in funding that would go toward upgrading the East Second Street corridor between Main and Institute streets and First and Second streets. She said grant funding is usually awarded during the state Regional Economic Development Council Consolidated Funding Application process, which didn’t occur this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Because the funding wasn’t awarded earlier this year, state officials are carrying out a special round. She added that the grant is due by Jan. 15. ....
