FOLLOWING the 2017 general election there was a swell of hope, a joint consciousness that things could and should be better. Even though the left lost, it felt as though there was a home for people with socialist ideals. Of course this ended up being somewhat short-lived when, by 2019, the smears on the left, the inner manoeuvrings of the supposed “democratic socialist” party and the toxic question of Brexit resulting in another electoral defeat, had left people feeling deflated and politically hopeless.
